◆About Wood Art
Wood Art is a technique derived from Marquetry, an artistic technique popular mainly in Europe.
It was started by Akie Katayama around 2000, and after much trial and error, has produced many design works as a technique that emphasizes pictorial expression more than marquetry.
Originally an oil painter, Akie Katayama's works are painted using the direction of the wood grain, the texture of the wood, and the hues of the wood.
Her works depict the original beauty of nature, such as mountains, rivers, and forests, as well as the harmony between human architecture and nature. In addition, the gestures of children and the movements of animals convey the message that humans are not special and are part of nature. Wood art has been loved by many people. No matter how advanced our technology becomes, we should never forget that we are just as much a part of nature as animals, birds, insects, and plants.
